About
I am a spoken word artist.
I find power in my vulnerability. By exploring and expressing ancestral trauma we get a deeper understanding of ourselves. Looking within and honestly coming to terms with history has the power to heal. That history includes humanity’s conquests and failures and our own personal bruises and scars we carry on our spirit. This is how we cry with our ancestors and mourn. This is how we explore our own personal stories and find the strength that comes from shedding the tears and standing with pride after we set our broken bones straight. After we heal together we can then appreciate the wonder beauty and magic that is the world all around us and all the time.
I am a writer, performer, activist, and teacher. First and foremost I use poetry and literacy as a guise to help me get into places to provide a safe place to cry. Through performance poetry I allow myself to demonstrate emotional vulnerability. This in turn allows the audience to open themselves up to authentically express themselves. For some people, this can be a very cathartic experience. I have found that most of us carry trauma with us. Some of that trauma started before we were even born. This ancestral trauma needs to be exposed to the light and healed. This is the purpose of my work
Sometimes it takes hard work and a fighting spirit to find the necessary healing. That work can be painful and frightening, but once we begin this journey I found that the beauty surrounding us at all times becomes more real. The pain we carry can be a burden we don’t notice until we put it down. With that new lightness of spirit comes an appreciation of the sacred. We gain sensitivity to beauty and the inherent goodness within us all.
